Cherubim

Who thought up the cherubs?
Angels gliding through the sky,
peering on at the fierce lion.
Stealthily shifting about
hindered by its feet,
gravity’s worst enemy.
Reaching up and given wings;
lifted to a higher plain.
Guided by the face of an angel?
But lions cannot fly
and will never grow wings
or apple red cheeks
to overcome gravity
and stumble across the sky.
